Opp MPs not allowed to tour Ahmedabad
  A team of MPs comprising Sitaram Yechuri, Shabana Azmi, Raj Babbar and Amar Singh were today denied permission by police to visit the riot-affected areas of Ahmedabad. The team that returned to Delhi, criticised the Gujarat government for the way it is handling the situation.
Communities are settled too close for Army comfort
  Restoring peace in Gujarat is no easy task. And 24 hours after its deployment, the hurriedly pushed in Army realises that. Aerial pictures of Ahmedabad’s ghettos show how close the two communities live to each other and are an indicator of Army’s difficulties in keeping them apart.
George says Rajkot to get more troops
  Defence Minister George Fernandes here today announced that more columns of armed personnel would be despatched to Rajkot. Three columns have already reached the city and one more was scheduled to arrive.
Curfew only way to stem violence
  There was no let-up in violence today. Two deaths and five incidents of stabbing were reported from the city. Curfew, which had been relaxed from 12 noon to 4 pm, was reimposed till midnight. Curfew was imposed in Wadhwan after a mob went on the rampage.
Rioters on loose, govt gags media
  Star News went off air today in major towns and cities of Gujarat after cable operators were ordered to block the channel, that has been showing extensive coverage of the riots in the state.

  The VHP and the Bajrang Dal today put up a show to keep the 250-odd railway policemen at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus busy. With saffron bandanas around foreheads, the men chanted Ram ka naam, and were promptly arrested right in front of reporters and TV cameras.
States crack whip as kar sevaks head for Ayodhya
  With the situation getting out of hand in Gujarat and threatening to do so in Ayodhya, the Government has started acting to stem the flow of kar sevaks into the town.
Cancellations overbooked on the Northern Railways
  Even as the railways swung into action, cancelling trains going towards Ayodhya and Faizabad, thousands of passengers cancelled their bookings even to other areas.
