Govt unable to check growing crime graph
PANAJI, MARCH 28: The rising number of dacoities, burglaries and thefts which has resulted in a serious law and order problem has added to the woes of the of the troubled BJP Government in the state after the Tehelka affair. The opposition Congress has declared that it will go to the villages to expose the BJP Government's inability to protect civilian life. A spate of violent burglaries, dacoities, murders and even jailbreaks have been witnessed in recent times in Goa. The police have not been able to nab any of the culprits so far. The Chief Minister had initially begun suspending errant police officers and tried to instill some kind of discipline in the indisciplined police force of the state. He also took the controversial decision to revert the police uniform from the Wendell Rodrecks designed Blue and White' to the traditional Khaki, but nothing helped. It was suspected that a certain tribe of primitive villagers from Bellari in Karnataka were involved in the dacoities. A team of police officials whose visit to Karnataka was proudly declared by official spokesmen have since returned empty handed. The latest spate of burglaries have been attributed to locals since the getaway vehicles have been Maruti vehicles belonging to the victims whose houses have been robbed in the wee hours of the morning. Surprisingly these vehicles have been found abandoned the next day in spite of the police holding at several places especially in the cities. The opposition parties in the state have used this issue to demand the ouster of the Government during debates in the ongoing legislative assembly session. However the disunity in the opposition ranks and the superficial solutions offered by the opposition like Deputy Chief Minister Ravi Naik to be handed over the Home portfolio, have only exposed the insincerity of the opposition.
