Night Shyamalan is highest-paid scriptwriter in US
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

Manoj Night Shyamalan, director of Sixth Sense, the 15th highest grosser of all time in the US and an Oscar-nominee, has become the highest paid scriptwriter and one of the best paid directors in Hollywood following a $5m pact with Disney Productions to direct a film based on his new script.

Shyamalan received a record-breaking sum of $5m from Disney Productions for his new script, "Unbreakable," which is again a suspense thriller with supernatural overtones.

Disney will pay Shyamalan another $5m to direct the film. Production will commence in April next year with Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson in the lead roles.

With this pact, Shyamalan is now the highest paid scriptwriter and one of the best paid directors in the business. The previous record holder for the highest paid script in Hollywood was Shane Black's "The Long Kiss Goodnight'', for which New Line paid $4m.

Shyamalan had received $3m for The Sixth Sense. The script of Unbreakable is a closely-guarded secret, but sources say it revolves around a man (Willis) who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident. The film will be shot in Philadelphia.
