Two armed youths held near Uma's agitation site
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

BHOPAL, MAY 2: Two youths carrying sharp weapons were arrested here last night from near the spot where BJP leader and local MP, Uma Bharti, was sitting on a `fast unto death', police said today.

The youths, however, had ``no plans to attack her (Bharti)'', police said.

The youths were going to a slum near Vallabh Bhavan, the state legislative assembly, where Bharti began her indefinite fast last noon demanding withdrawal of the state government's order retrenching about 30,000 daily wage workers, police said.

``But they could not proceed beyond the agitation place as police had put up barricades on the streets leading to it'', they said.

Security around the BJP leader had been beefed up, they said.

BJP leaders here, however, claimed that the youths planned to attack Bharti.
