AHMEDABAD, Oct 27: The Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Rafiq Ahmed alias Rafiq Tikkawala Shaikh, for stabbing a person to death during the communal riots in the city in July this year. He was remanded in police custody for seven days by Metropolitan Magistrate K I Kachhia.Crime Branch police inspector M B Solanki, who produced him before the Magistrate had requested 10 days remand for further interrogation of the accused.
The Crime Branch had asked for the remand on the grounds that it wanted to find out the names of others involved in the stabbing and arrest them. An identification parade of the accused was also to be conducted. Besides, the Crime Branch pleaded that a gold chain of the deceased which was missing after the incident was yet to found.
Details of the case state that on July 20 a motorcyclist, Nageshwar Rao, travelling from the Kadiakui crossroads towards Zakkaria Masjid was stabbed to death by an irate mob. Also, two scooterists -- Surendra Shah and Dineshchandra Shah -- were injured in the stabbing. The mob later escaped from the site of crime.
The accused, a resident of Dariapur, was allegedly also involved in crime and loot.
