AHMEDABAD, Oct 27: From welfare to empowerment, feminism has come a long way since the days of pleading for justice to demanding equality of opportunity. Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has organised a seminar on `Empowerment of Women in the New Millennium' to discuss basic issues concerning utilisation of women's entrepreneurial abilities.Giving details of the seminar which is to be held on Saturday, GCCI ladies wing chairperson Yogini Brahmbhatt told reporters that the seminar aimed at drawing attention to major pillars of women's empowerment like education, training, health and self-employment.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel while Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals chairman K D Jeswani and Gujarat State Financial Corporation chairman I K Jadeja will be special guests.
The main topics of discussion in the seminar will be `Empowerment of Women in the New Millennium' and `Women Entrepreneurs - Opportunities and Problems'. The ladies wing has also prepared project files of about 275 industries including agro-industries, handicrafts and garments where women can explore ways of making progress. These project files will be used to guide the women entrepreneurs.
On the occasion GCCI ladies wing will also felicitate four outstanding women achievers -- Mrinalini Sarabhai, Ela Bhatt, Virbala Nagarwadia and Leena Sarabhai.
