Tripartite talks to settle Telco workers strike

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
Jamshedpur, July 19: A tripartite talk among the management, workers' union and the government would be held in Patna on July 25 to discuss the regularisation of 4,000 temporary workers in Telco, who have been on hunger strike for the last eight days, Bihar minister for labour, employment and training, Kamal Paswan said here today.

Talking to newspersons, the minister said he would talk to the managements and unions to end the contract labour system. He said unless this system was abolished, the problem of temporary workers would continue.

Abolition of the contract labour system was the key to solving the perennial problem between the management and the workers, Paswan said.

He said the management had no right to play with the future of the temporary employees. Paswan also stressed the need for workers' participation in the management saying it would ease tension.

The minister also asked all industries to implement labour laws which, he felt, were flouted often. He admitted there were lapses on thepart of the government in implementing labour laws.

Unemployed youth would have to be utilised for constructive work and given work under theself-employment scheme, he said.
