Sood, who also gave copies of the FIR to the media persons, alleged that Sunainan, married in January 25 this year, initially did not let her parents know about the harassment she was suffering from at the hands of her in-laws. It was only when her mother-in-law `tried to kill her by strangulating' her that she left her in-laws house at nearby Bheen village and came back to them. However, Sood said, she was sent back to her in-laws after some local prominent persons persuaded them to do so.

After this, he said, he used to visit her daughter regularly at the computer centre here, which she was running along with her husband. During one of his visits, his daughter told him that her in-laws were again pressing her for money as they wanted to upgrade the computer centre. Sood said that he, in fact, promised as much help to them as he could afford.

However, he alleged that Sunainan was not at the centre when he went there on June 11. His son-in-law, Suvodh, told him that she had not come to the centre on that day. Since then, the whereabouts of her daughter were not known. In his complaint Sood has apprehended threat to her daughter's life from her in-laws. The police have registered a case under sections 498-A /364/34 of IPC.

Ram Sarup, father-in-law of the girl, when contacted, termed the allegations baseless and said Sood was using the incident to harass them because, he alleged, he was against the marriage of his daughter with his son, Suvodh.

He said that on June 11, Sunainan, in fact, left the centre, saying that she was going to a beauty parlour and that she would be back within two hours. However, neither she visited the parlour nor she came back, he added. He said that he was fully cooperating in the investigations.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh, when contacted on phone, said that the police would be able to achieve a breakthrough in the case soon.
