Municipal park comes under fire

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, July 10: The Chandigarh Defence Colony Welfare Association has questioned the logic behind the setting up of a 50-acre municipal park in the City.

"It is a laudable idea to have such a facility for the City Beautiful but the timing and the priority to undertake the venture are miscalculated and demand reassessment of the requirement vis-a-vis the provision of basic needs of City residents," says association president Air Marshal Randhir Singh (retd).

Randhir Singh also pointed out several problems being faced by the City, like acute power and water shortage. "Things have only deteriorated after the inception of the corporation," he added. Randhir Singh said the MC or the Administration were blind to leakages in the water distribution system and power-thefts by industrialists and colony residents. He added money and efforts should rather be put in to meet various demands of the residents.
