BANGKOK, June 3: The first Thai-built satellite has been completed and is scheduled to be launched this month by a Russian rocket, the manager of the project said on Wednesday. The Thailand Microsatellite is the result of a technology transfer project between Mahanakorn University in Bangkok and Britain's Surrey University.
``The satellite will be able to serve the purposes of studying telecommunications, remote sensing and shortwave radio,'' Mahanakorn University research chief Suchet Chantarang said.
``This is the first satellite under the joint project,'' he added, saying three other satellites would follow.
The satellite is due to go into orbit on June 23 from the Baikanour Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The 50-kg satellite is to orbit some 800 kms above the earth.
